Technology Guide

This section introduces Lotte Chemical’s production and processing technology and processes for each plant.

Plant #1 > Power

The power supply plant supplies the cooling water required to operate the naphtha cracking plant, plant air, ultra-pure water, and fuel including electricity and steam required for plant operation. Major equipment owned includes 2 units of gas turbine generator and 1 unit of steam turbine generator with production capacity of 86.2MW of electricity and 448T/Hr of steam. It supplies stable power through a dual power system. The capacity of this power supply plant, which covers 80% of the power demand of Yeosu Plant #1, is enough to supply electricity to approximately 210.8 thousand households, assuming one household usually consumes 0.389KW (based on 2011 data). In addition, the plant supplies plant air to each plant and provides cooling water to the naphtha cracking aromatics (BTX), air separation plant, and combined-cycle generation equipment.

01 Gas Turbine #1

Gas turbine #1 is using methane (CH4) produced in the naphtha cracking plant as its main fuel. This is essential equipment that supplies power for the naphtha cracking plant to continuously operate if KEPCO experiences a power failure. The 25MW (11Kv, 60Hz) power produced by the generator is supplied to the naphtha cracking plant and other affiliate plants, and the 485°C exhaust gas generated from gas turbine #1 is used as air for combustion at the naphtha crackers, thus contributing to reduced fuel consumption.

02 Combined Cycle Generation Equipment

Gas turbine #2 consists of HRSG and STG. The combined cycle generation equipment produces power by operating the steam turbine using ultra-high pressure steam (SS) generated from the naphtha cracking plant. It is a combined cycle cogeneration system designed to operate gas turbine #2 and HRSG using the fuel produced from the byproduct of the aromatics plant.

03 Boiler

The boiler supplies steam to the naphtha cracking plant and other affiliated plants. Two units are installed, with a production capacity of 140.0 tons/Hr per unit. The high-temperature gas burned by fuel passes through the coils inside the furnace and air preheater and is discharged into the air. At this time, the boiler water flowing inside the coils is heated to a high temperature and hence produces steam.
