Plant #1 > UC - The Air Separation Plant
The UC plant produces and supplies utilities (air and water) required for the production process and operates pollution prevention facilities (wastewater treatment plant, VOC incinerator, flare stack). The plant is broadly divided into 3 sections: AS (Air Separation), WT (Water Treatment), and WWT (Wastewater Treatment).
■ Production process
01 Air Compression
It performs the function of raising the air liquefying temperature through air compression. (Air compressor: Compresses the air up to 5K/G.)
02 Elimination of Impurities
Moisture and carbon dioxide in the air are eliminated.
03 Heat Exchange
It liquefies the air through heat exchange between the supplied warm air and the cold oxygen and nitrogen coming from the Rectifying Tower.
04 Rectifying Tower
The expansion turbine that cools and liquefies the air gradually cools the substances in gas form at room temperature, including air, until they reach the state of liquefaction. In general, gas cooling is achieved by heat exchange with low-temperature fluid through the heat exchanger.
05 Expansion Turbine
It separates oxygen and nitrogen by liquefying air at low temperature. A dual distillation tower divided into high tower (5K/G) and low tower (0.3~0.6K/G) is commonly used to reduce the power consumption for separation.
